The F Train Follies - Don't you just love tourists?

Tourist dad: Oh my god, why does it say Grand Central? Guys, get off the train! Why is it Grand Central?

Chick: If you're trying to go to Times Square just wait on that platform.

Tourist dad: No, we're trying to go to Grand Central Station.

Chick: Um, well, you're here.

Tourist dad: Grand Central Terminal? How is it Grand Central?

I can't even imagine the ignorance that New Yorkers have to deal with. So do you find them amusing or annoying?

I love NYC. I mean I really love it. There are only two other cities I've been too that I love as much as NYC. They are London and San Francisco.

Your post reminds me of a couple of memories about the city. My wife and I visited the towers in June of 2001 and we were in awe. We visited the "Top of the World" and it was such a beautiful view. A year and a half later I had the opportunity to visit the site again by myself. I took a bus from Jersey and ended up at a major bus/train/metro station and had no idea where I was. I couldn't even find my way outside of the building until I asked for help. I asked someone how to get to the site and they physically cringed. I understood how insensitive it must have seemed to them to have a tourist ask them for directions to their nightmare. I hopped on the metro and arrived to the site around 8pm. As I walked around I was literally brought to tears. I couldn't believe that a place that I had a fond memory of had been taken away from me. I can only imagine how the natives felt.

I know this is long and a bit depressing, but I just wanted to say thank you to all the natives for putting up with tourists like me so we could witness the pain for ourselves.

please realize that nyers aren't as snarky as we're always dipicted to be. when you live in shoeboxs and there's 9 million people moving about a 10 mile island on any given day, you get a bit curt with people.

but, i think if you look at how nyers responded to one another during and after 9/11 and during the blackout, you'll see that we're just like any other community...we just wear more black...and have a better baseball team.

and hey, even natives still get a little confused when riding the subway - personally, i sometimes check to see what direction the sun is when i exit underground so i know whether i'm facing west or east.

Even though the one lady was taken aback by my question New Yorkers have been very kind to me every time I've visited. Compared to those in Chicago, New Yorkers are angels.

Maybe the reason so many people visit the city is because you all are great and unique!!
